The dark side of the moons are hand painted with oils and embellished with metallic pencil. They are sealed with a matte varnish and hang from an 18” 3mm rubber cord with a sterling silver clasp. Give the moon

Personalized for the date and location you select

The moon is the perfect gift for a special person who likes unique and meaningful jewelry. Your personalized moon pendant will contain an explanation of the moon’s phase for the date and location you select. (For example: the moon’s phase on June 13, 1954 in Camden, NJ) It will be elegantly packaged in a black, recycled cardboard gift box. If it is being shipped, it will arrive in a black biodegradable bubbler mailer. Shipping within the United States is free. International shipping will have an additional charge.

Popular Lunar Phases

If you don’t need a date/place specific phase, these general moon phases are available. The pendant you receive will be made to match a phase you choose from these photographs, it will not be the exact pendant pictured here. Click on a moon to place an order.

FAQ’s

What do you mean when you say “concrete”?2024-03-30T01:02:27+00:00

I use Quickrete brand quick setting cement and cast the moons in a silicone mold. There is a technical difference between cement and concrete, but people like me tend to use the two interchangeably. I use the word concrete because it sounds better than “cement moon.”  Right?

Can I get multiples of the same Phase/Date?2024-04-08T13:55:14+00:00

Yes! If you are interested in ordering multiple moons for the same date (bridal party, a group of people graduating together, best friends, etc) let me know when we communicate via email. Please understand that the necklaces you receive will not be “identical” (because they are handmade) but they will be the same moon phase and I will try to make them as similar as possible. If I have a question about what you want, I will ask you before I make your order.

How do you know the moon phases for past and future dates?2024-04-12T13:58:29+00:00

Science! I research dates and locations on an app and then cross reference them using several sources such as NASA and the Old Farmer’s Almanac in hopes of capturing special details about celestial events that are significant to your date. I geek out on the possibilities! If you want to know what your special date’s moon phase is prior to purchase, you can search “moon phase + your month, date, year” or go to the nineplanets.org website and use their calendar.  This site does not include a location feature, which could influence your moon’s appearance depending on where you are (read the next answer about that) but it is an easy way to get a sneak peek of the phase you will receive. It will help you understand the type of moon you will be getting to avoid any potential disappointment. Beyond that, you just have to trust The Universe, and me! Personalized moons will vary beyond the 8 stages featured in the gallery. Sometimes the lit portion of the moon is a wee little sliver of silver. The New Moon is completely dark and contains no silver, but does have visible craters.

Why do you need so much information for personalization?2024-04-12T13:55:52+00:00

To assure that your moon phase is accurate to the selected date, the year and location is very important. Everyone in the world sees the same moon and the same stage on a given day, but the Northern Hemisphere’s moon is lit on the opposite side. Still the same moon, but illuminated differently. Cool huh? So location is very important for accuracy of appearance.

Can you make a moon that is photographically realistic?2024-03-30T01:07:20+00:00

I suppose I could, but I don’t. This is where science ends and art begins. Because I create stylized, moon-inspired art jewelry, I like how each one has slight variations and its own look. If you are interested in an exact image of your phase, there is personalized moon jewelry out there that is created with a photograph of the moon. They are easy to find with a “personalized moon jewelry” search on Etsy or Amazon. If that’s what you’re looking for, shop around. If you’re looking for something kind of funky, stylized, and uniquely lunar inspired – look no further, my moons are made for you!

How do you make the craters?2024-03-30T01:07:58+00:00

Some occur naturally during the concrete casting, which I love. I add more by pressing into the soft concrete or carving them into the dry concrete with a scribing tool. The craters are not a true depiction of the moon’s surface. They are “moon-like.”

Can I get a special message sent with my purchase?2024-03-30T01:08:46+00:00

You bet! The more information you give me, the more I can customize your order. When you email me at lunaphasejewelry@gmail.com please share whatever you’d like me to include in a message. This is especially important if the moon is a gift and is being shipped directly to the recipient.

How long will it take to receive my order?2024-03-30T01:09:44+00:00

The moons are handmade to order and will typically ship within 3-6 business days of receipt. If you are ordering multiples it could take longer before they ship. I try my best to ship as quickly as possible. If you purchased a moon at Powell Lane Arts, you will work directly with them to arrange for pick up.

How long does it take to get my order once it is shipped?2024-03-31T14:54:57+00:00

All items ship via USPS. On average, this typically takes approximately 2-3 business days, but may vary depending on location, weather conditions, holidays, high demand, etc. I will do my best to get your order to you as quickly as possible. Please make sure the address I am shipping to is accurate, deliverable, and verified by the USPS. Free shipping only applies to orders delivered within the United States. If I am shipping outside the U.S. the cost of shipping to you will be added to your order.

Moons on the map!

Sharing the moon with some people I love is how this whole project started. We are all connected through time and space.

A moon tracker map is coming soon, but for now, here are some moons that shone down on us. You know who you are. xoxo
