This colorful series features tiny tiles, made from white earthenware clay, that are stamped on the fronts (with found objects or commercial stamps) and brushed with a black underglaze. They are then wiped with a damp sponge to expose the white clay while leaving the black in the recessed areas. They are glazed on the back with a black, stone finish glaze before they are fired. After the firing, the color is hand painted with oils and accented with colored pencil that is sealed with a satin varnish. The earrings hang from hand crafted, partially blackened sterling silver earwires. They are very light and comfortable. Tile sizes vary slightly and are listed for each item when you click into the gallery. If you are interested in any jewelry featured from this series, please email me at karenkiickart@gmail.com.
