Empty Bowls

“Empty Bowls” is a nationally recognized service project that brings attention to the issues of poverty and hunger. HTHS has sponsored four Empty Bowls Dinners. One in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 where our community enjoyed a meal while also enjoying each other’s company. By hosting four dinners, we’ve raised over $16,000 for The Food Bank of South Jersey. At the end of each dinner, all leftover food and hundreds of dollars of donated canned goods were delivered to a soup kitchen in Camden, NJ. The bowls are handcrafted by students, faculty and community members and are used at the dinner. As a gesture of thanks for their donation, each guest keeps their bowl as a reminder that there are many empty bowls in the world.

There is more about Empty Bowls on my blog.
